The role requires strong contract knowledge, cost control, and negotiation skills. Degree in QS or related experience preferred; UK driving license is necessary; company car or car allowance provided.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage commercial aspects of multiple groundwork and civil engineering projects from award to final account.
• Prepare, submit, and agree valuations and payments.
• Produce cost forecasts, cash flow reports and reconciliations.
• Procure subcontractors and suppliers; prepare enquiries and negotiate terms.
• Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
• Identify, price and negotiate variations and change orders.
• Monitor costs, identify commercial risks and mitigation strategies.
• Support project teams with commercial advice and contract administration.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with contracts and company procedures.

Our client are a well-established and growing groundworks and civil engineering contractor delivering high-quality projects across the commercial, industrial and infrastructure sectors. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing the commercial aspects of multiple groundwork and civil engineering projects from award through to final account.
• Preparing, submitting, and agreeing valuations and applications for payment.
• Producing cost forecasts, cash flow reports, and monthly cost value reconciliations.
• Procuring subcontractors and suppliers, including preparing enquiries and negotiating terms.
• Managing subcontractor accounts, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
• Identifying, pricing, and negotiating variations and change orders.
• Monitoring project costs, identifying commercial risks, and implementing mitigation strategies.
• Supporting project teams with commercial advice and contract administration.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the groundworks, civil engineering, or infrastructure sector.
• A strong understanding of construction contracts, commercial management, and cost control.
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and commercial management software.
• A full UK driving license.
• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline (but not essential with relevant experience).
