Job summary

Kenton Black are seeking a permanent Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Dundee office. You will support the commercial delivery of a diverse portfolio of civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland, working with operational teams to ensure profitable, effective project delivery.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, 5+ years' experience, strong knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts, and excellent numerical

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
  • 5+ years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering, infrastructure or construction.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and maximise project profitability.
  • Experience procuring subcontractors and managing valuations and accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial aspects of multiple civil engineering and infrastructure projects from inception through to final account.
  • Prepare, submit and negotiate interim valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets and forecasts with regular financial reporting.
  • Procure and manage subcontractors, including valuations and payments.
  • Identify, value and agree variations and entitlements.
  • Support project teams with commercial advice, risk management and contract administration.
  • Maintain cost records and provide regular financial updates to senior management.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Assist in managing cash flow and profitability across projects.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.

Job description

Kenton Black are seeking a permanent Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their client's expanding team in Dundee.

The company, a well-established and highly regarded civil engineering and infrastructure contractor, is looking to appoint a proactive Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects across Scotland. This role offers an excellent opportunity to join a growing business, working closely with operational teams to ensure projects are delivered profitably, efficiently and in line with contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the commercial aspects of multiple civil engineering and infrastructure projects from inception through to final account.
  • Prepare, submit and negotiate interim valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets and forecasts, ensuring accurate financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Procure and manage subcontractors, including preparing subcontract documentation, valuations and payments.
  • Identify, value and agree variations, compensation events and contractual entitlements.
  • Support project teams with commercial advice, risk management and contract administration.
  • Maintain accurate cost records and provide regular financial updates to senior management.
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Assist in managing cash flow, cost control and profitability across projects.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company commercial procedures.
What You Bring
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the civil engineering, infrastructure or construction sectors.
  • Good understanding of standard forms of contract including NEC and JCT.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage project budgets and maximise project profitability.
  • Experience in subcontractor procurement, valuation and account management.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities, with confidence liaising at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with experience using commercial management systems advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence.
