Job summary

Interaction Recruitment Group is recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator based in Barnstaple, North Devon. The role is full-time and on-site, with a salary around £55,000 per year depending on experience.

Benefits include a company car allowance, pension, private healthcare, five weeks’ holiday and a discretionary profit-share scheme. You will join the contracting team and handle cost estimation and tendering processes.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator, or similar commercial construction role.
• Experience in both quantity surveying and estimating is highly desirable.
• Minimum of three years' experience in surveying and/or estimating.
• Strong understanding of construction cost control principles and techniques.
• Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Meticulous attention to detail and high accuracy.
• Outstanding communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Effective at managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Full driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate cost estimates and budgets for commercial construction projects, typically ranging from £100,000 to £10 million.
• Collaborate effectively as part of a bid team during the estimating and tendering process.
• Analyse and interpret project specifications, drawings, and tender documentation.
• Liaise with architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure precise cost planning.
• Monitor project progress and provide regular, detailed cost reports.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend suitable value-engineering solutions.
• Review, negotiate, and manage contracts with suppliers and subcontractors, including processing and payment of accounts.
• Undertake monthly valuations and monitor project payments to ensure financial accuracy.
• Conduct site visits to assess progress and verify quantities.
• Monitor project expenditure to help ensure delivery within agreed budgets.
• Support the successful commercial delivery of projects while maintaining high standards of quality.
