Job summary

Brownlee Cale Ltd is seeking a freelance Quantity Surveyor to support a contractor on the Yorkshire Water framework. The role focuses on NEC4 Option A Design & Build, with emphasis on commercial acumen, risk recognition and margin protection, not merely paperwork.

You will manage NEC4 Option A projects, support commercial risk management, handle compensation events, cost forecasting, CVRs and project reporting, while working closely with delivery teams.

Qualifications

• Experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
• Understanding NEC Option A / priced contracts.
• Background in civil engineering or water infrastructure.
• Strong change management and commercial reporting capability.

Responsibilities

• Commercial management of NEC4 Option A projects.
• Manage D&B commercial and contractual risk.
• Handle compensation events from notification through to agreement.
• Forecast costs, CVRs and project reporting.
• Procure and account manage subcontractors.
• Manage applications, valuations and cash flow.
• Administer Early Warnings and contractual notices.
• Assess design development and its commercial impact.
• Maintain contemporary project records.
• Challenge programme and cost assumptions.
• Identify commercial opportunities and protect entitlement.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Planners, Design and Delivery teams.
• Support projects through to final account.

We're looking for an experienced freelance Quantity Surveyor to support a contractor delivering projects across the Yorkshire Water framework.

This is NEC Option A Design & Build, so we need someone commercially sharp. You'll need to understand the contract, recognise risk early and protect margin, not simply administer the paperwork.

The Role

• Commercial management of NEC4 Option A projects
• Management of D&B commercial and contractual risk
• Compensation events from notification through to agreement

• Subcontract procurement and account management
• Applications, valuations and cash management
• Management of Early Warnings and contractual notices
• Assessing design development and its commercial impact
• Maintaining strong contemporary records

• Working closely with Project Managers, Planners, Design and Delivery teams

You'll Need
