Quantity Surveyor

Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire

£50k base + £5k car allowance

25 days holiday + bank holidays

Our client is a respected national civil engineering contractor delivering high‑quality infrastructure solutions to leading housebuilders and local authorities across the UK. They specialise in groundworks, housing plot infrastructure, adoptable sewers, drainage, and associated civil engineering works.

Role Overview

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will manage the commercial and contractual aspects of projects, ensuring accurate cost control and supporting project teams from tender stage through to final account. This role is key to ensuring commercial success and maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the commercial management of housing plot, sewer, and drainage projects.
  • Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Carry out accurate measurements and take‑offs for groundworks and civil engineering packages.
  • Monitor budgets, forecasts, and cost performance across multiple sites.
  • Procure subcontractors, prepare comparisons, and manage subcontract payments.
  • Ensure contract compliance under NEC, JCT, or client‑specific forms.
  • Produce monthly cost/value reconciliations and commercial reports.
  • Work closely with site teams, clients, and suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities, supporting value engineering initiatives.
About You
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, groundworks, or housing infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of drainage, deep and adoptable sewers, earthworks, and plot works.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with strong analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Competent with industry measurement methods and commercial software.
  • Familiarity with NEC/JCT contracts or similar.
  • Highly organised with strong communication and client‑facing skills.
  • Degree‑qualified in Quantity Surveying or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to projects as required.
