Job summary

Caval Ltd is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Quantity Surveyor specializing in Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) for site-based and nationwide projects across Wigan, Manchester and Leeds.

You will manage all commercial and QS aspects of M&E projects from inception to completion, produce interim valuations, monitor cash flow, and mentor junior staff while liaising with clients and subcontractors to ensure cost-efficient delivery.

Qualifications

• Proven Quantity Surveying experience within the M&E sector.
• Strong understanding of M&E systems and construction processes.
• Experience managing projects commercially from inception to completion.
• Knowledge of cost estimation, budgeting and contract administration.
• Experience managing subcontractor accounts, interim applications and valuations.
• Strong commercial awareness and financial reporting skills.

• Experience mentoring junior Quantity Surveyors.

Responsibilities

Senior Quantity Surveyor / Quantity Surveyor - Mechanical & Electrical (M&E)

Location: Wigan, Manchester and Leeds - Site-based / Nationwide Projects

For this role, you must possess:

• Proven Quantity Surveying experience within the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) sector.
• Strong understanding of M&E systems, components and construction processes.
• Experience managing projects commercially from inception through to completion.
• Strong knowledge of cost estimation, budgeting and contract administration.
• Experience managing subcontractor accounts, interim applications and valuations.
• Strong commercial awareness and financial reporting skills.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to identify commercial risks, cost overruns and opportunities for savings.
• Experience working closely with operational and site teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
• Experience mentoring and supporting junior Quantity Surveyors.
• Relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Duties:

• Manage all commercial and quantity surveying aspects of M&E projects from inception to completion.
• Prepare monthly interim valuations and monitor project cash flow.
• Produce accurate contract forecasts and monthly commercial reports.
• Manage subcontractor accounts, including interim applications, payment assessments and certification.
• Review subcontractor claims, variations and changes to ensure costs remain controlled.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets and financial reports.
• Monitor project progress, financial performance and potential cost overruns.
• Identify commercial risks, cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
• Work closely with operational and site teams to maintain effective commercial control.
• Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, relevant regulations and industry standards.
• Oversee and mentor junior Quantity Surveyors, providing technical guidance and support.
• Support the successful financial and commercial delivery of projects.

Sector Experience:

• Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) experience essential.
• Construction industry experience essential.
• Experience working across residential and commercial projects highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of M&E systems, construction processes and contract administration.
• Experience managing subcontractor packages, valuations and final accounts.
• Ability to work across projects in Wigan, Manchester and Leeds.
