Job summary

Paxton Personnel Ltd is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our client’s team in the Highlands. You will manage commercial aspects of civil engineering projects from pre-contract to final account, collaborating with project managers, site teams, clients, subcontractors and senior management.

Your responsibilities include budgeting, measurement and valuations, applications for payment, and reviewing contracts to ensure value and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or construction.
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge.
  • Experience managing projects from commencement through to final account.
  • Good understanding of NEC and/or other major forms of construction contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of civil engineering projects.
  • Preparing, monitoring and managing project budgets and forecasts.
  • Measurement and valuation of works completed.
  • Preparing applications for payment and managing payment processes.
  • Reviewing contracts, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, accounts and payments.
  • Preparing and assessing variations, compensation events and claims.
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Monitoring project costs and financial performance; producing reports for senior management.
  • Managing the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
  • Supporting project teams with commercial and contractual advice.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Ensuring commercial procedures and company policies are followed.

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our client's team within the temporary industry sector. Based in the Highlands, this role requires a professional who can efficiently manage costs, maximise value, and oversee contractual disputes to ensure the successful delivery of projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, analysing, and managing cost estimates, budgets, and contractual documentation, alongside providing commercial guidance throughout the project lifecycle. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with a well-established company contributing to diverse and challenging projects.

The Role

About You

We are looking for an experiencedQuantity Surveyorwith a strong background in civil engineering or infrastructure.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or construction.
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge.
  • Experience managing projects from commencement through to final account.
  • Good understanding of NEC and/or other major forms of construction contract.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Strong negotiation and communication abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider project team.
  • A commercially astute and proactive approach.
  • Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

Chartered status or working towards chartership would be advantageous, butexperience, attitude and commercial ability are equally important.
