Job summary

Daniel Owen Ltd is seeking a self-sufficient Quantity Surveyor to own tendering and the commercial process from start to finish. The role sits in the office in Didcot, Oxfordshire, collaborating closely with Directors, site teams, subcontractors and suppliers on domestic and commercial projects.

The successful candidate will price and tender projects, prepare budgets and cost plans, monitor costs and profitability, and manage variations across multiple tenders and live projects.

Qualifications

• Proven Quantity Surveying experience within the construction industry.
• Ability to independently price and tender projects.
• Strong understanding of domestic and commercial construction.
• Experience working directly with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Strong negotiation and communication abilities.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a self-sufficient QS who can take ownership of the tendering and commercial process from start to finish. Unlike larger organisations, this position offers the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of project pricing and cost management, working closely with Directors, site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.

The successful candidate will be based in the office and will play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the business.

Candidate Profile

This role would particularly suit a Quantity Surveyor who has experience within a small to medium-sized contractor, where they have been responsible for projects from tender stage through to completion.

Essential Requirements

• Proven Quantity Surveying experience within the construction industry.
• Ability to independently price and tender projects.
• Strong understanding of domestic and commercial construction.
• Experience working directly with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

• Full UK Driving Licence.

Highly Desirable

• Experience working on projects valued between £20,000 and £500,000.
• Previous experience with a regional contractor, SME, or family-run construction business.
• Practical understanding of construction methods and sequencing.
• Hands-on approach and willingness to be involved in all aspects of project delivery.
