Job summary

theagencygroup is seeking a proactive Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team on live construction projects. You’ll work closely with Project and Contract Managers to manage costs, valuations, variations and payments, ensuring commercial control across the project lifecycle.

Ideal candidates will have solid QS experience in construction, with strong numerical and Excel skills, contract knowledge (NEC/JCT) and a methodical approach to records. UK driving licence is a plus.

Qualifications

• Ideally, you'll already have Quantity Surveying experience within construction, contracting, infrastructure or another project-based environment.
• Understanding of commercial and financial control within construction projects.
• Experience with NEC and/or JCT contracts.
• Experience with valuations, variations and applications for payment.
• CSCS would be useful but isn’t necessarily the deciding factor.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day commercial support with Project and Contract Managers.

Job description

If you're a Quantity Surveyor who enjoys the commercial side of construction but doesn't necessarily want to disappear into a huge corporate environment, this could be a really good move.

We're working with an established business delivering projects into the construction sector, and they're looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

It's a hands-on role where you'll work closely with Project and Contract Managers, keeping an eye on the numbers, making sure applications and variations are dealt with properly and generally helping projects stay commercially on track.

You don't need to come from one very specific corner of construction. We're much more interested in someone who understands contracts, project costs and commercial control and can apply that experience to a project-led environment.

What will you be doing?

You'll be involved across the commercial side of live projects, including:

• Working alongside Project and Contract Managers to provide day-to-day commercial support
• Monitoring project costs against budgets and quoted figures
• Preparing and administering valuations
• Pricing and managing variations
• Supporting contract reviews and keeping commercial information accurate and up to date
• Helping to maintain Cost Value Reconciliations and project financial reporting
• Making sure applications are prepared and submitted on time
• Reviewing activity schedules, programme information and contractual requirements
• Following up outstanding prices, agreements and commercial information
• Supporting procurement activity and liaising with suppliers and internal teams
• Assisting with final accounts
• Liaising with clients, contractors and other members of the professional team
• Attending project and commercial meetings where required
• Keeping clear, accurate records throughout the life of a project

What are we looking for?

Ideally, you'll already have Quantity Surveying experience within construction, contracting, infrastructure or another project-based environment.

You'll also need:

• A good understanding of commercial and financial control within construction projects
• Experience working with contracts such as NEC and/or JCT
• Experience with valuations, variations and applications for payment
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• Good Excel skills and general confidence using Microsoft Office
• A methodical approach to paperwork and commercial records
• Confidence dealing with clients and project teams
• Good organisation and time management
• A relevant Quantity Surveying or construction qualification would be beneficial
• CSCS would be useful but isn't necessarily the deciding factor
• A full UK driving licence

Most importantly, we're looking for someone commercially switched on who can spot when something doesn't quite stack up and is comfortable asking the right questions.

This could suit an established QS, or someone earlier in their career who has gained solid construction experience and is ready for a role with plenty of involvement across live projects.
