Job summary

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is hiring a Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial and cost management across multiple capital projects. You will work within the South East/West Hub in a hybrid pattern, collaborating with project managers and engineers across Welsh Water frameworks.

The role requires NEC contract knowledge, strong analytical skills, and a UK driving licence. You will help with procurement, cost allocations, and final accounts, contributing to continuous improvement across projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent) and working towards chartered status.
• Experience with NEC contract administration or equivalent.
• Strong analytical and data interrogation skills with ability to present findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional commercial and cost management on several capital projects.
• Support project managers and engineers on contract management within Welsh Water Frameworks.

• Undertake cost analysis on tender returns for capital projects.
• Prepare works orders and ensure project approval processes are followed.

• Identify and manage commercial project risks and ensure proper allocation.
• Carry out monthly valuations and recommend payments.

What you’ll be responsible for

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

What You'll Do

• Provide professional commercial and cost management on several capital projects simultaneously
• Provide support and advice to a team of project managers and project engineers on all aspects of commercial contract management within Welsh Water Frameworks
• Assist with procurement and allocating of capital work to framework contractors
• Undertake detailed cost analysis on tender returns for capital projects
• Prepare all aspects of works orders ensuring all Welsh Water project approval processes are followed
• Validate and agree contract values and target costs with framework contractors
• Identify, analyse and develop response to commercial project risks ensuring risks are understood, valued and correctly allocated
• Carry out monthly valuations of completed work and recommend for payment
• Manage the flow of financial information between finance, SAP teams, project managers and contractors
• Provide advice on contractual claims, early warning notices and compensation events
• Agree and sign off final accounts at contractor and project levels
• Undertake appropriate ‘lessons learnt’ analysis upon project completion in order to ensure that there is a continuous improvement process applied.
• Assist with the dispute resolution between third parties and Welsh Water
• Understand the implications of Health and Safety Regulations
• Ensure the provision of accurate and timely management of information
• Carry out other duties as directed to meet business needs

About You

Essential Experience, Qualifications and Skills

• Qualified to degree level (or equivalent considerable relevant experience) and working towards chartered status.
• Knowledge, experience or understanding of NEC and other contract administration.
• Excellent analytical and data interrogation skills with an ability to extract relevant information and present it in a logical and structured manner.
• Cost management experience, demonstrating an excellent track record in the commercial delivery of projects ranging from £25k to £2m.
• Excellent communicator and team player who understands the importance of ownership and accountability.
• Experience and understanding of Health and Safety Legislation.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplined engineering delivery team environment.
• The ability to work to tight regulatory and project timelines.
• A valid UK driving licence.

Good to know

• Location: This role can be based at either our South East or South West Hub, which will be discussed during the interview process based on your current location.
• Working Pattern: Hybrid working, with a minimum of three days per week spent on site or in the office and two days working remotely.
• Travel: Regular travel to sites within the agreed region will be required. Business mileage and fuel expenses can be claimed in line with company policy
