Job summary

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water invites applications for a role within our high performing operational team in Cardiff. You will contribute to managing the sewerage network to meet regulatory, customer and performance targets, while ensuring services are delivered safely and within budget.

Key duties include supporting the Network Lead, delivering investigations to high standards, providing technical support to service providers, engaging with regulators and communities, standing by for 24/7 customer

Qualifications

  • Full and valid driving licence.
  • Civil Engineering background with HNC.
  • Able to think strategically and ensure day-to-day delivery of services.
  • Customer-focused and able to build positive working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Network Lead in the safe, efficient operation of the sewerage network.
  • Ensure investigations are conducted to a high standard and compliant with procedures.
  • Provide technical support to service providers and Welsh Water staff.
  • Uphold Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Engage with external stakeholders to develop regulatory relationships (e.g., NRW).
  • Carry out surface water rebate inspections.
  • Assist with budget management by promoting effective repairs post-investigations.
  • Represent the company during incidents with external agencies.
  • Participate in standby rosta to maintain 24/7 customer service.
  • Coordinate with Highway Authorities on Streetworks defects.
  • Undertake other duties to meet business needs.

What you’ll be responsible for

You will be a part of a high performing team responsible for managing an operational area to achieve regulatory, customer and performance related targets. You will ensure the sewerage infrastructure is managed to the highest standard whilst working within the agreed budgetary targets. This will include:

  • Assisting the Network Lead with the safe & efficient operation of the sewerage network, ensuring that all operational activities are undertaken in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner
  • Ensure all investigations are of the highest standard and undertaken in compliance with the relevant management procedure
  • Provision of technical support to service providers and Welsh Water operational staff
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in line with Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Assisting the Network Lead with external stakeholders to develop and maintain strong regulatory relationships eg. Natural Resources Wales representatives, and participation with community groups when appropriate
  • Surface water rebate inspections
  • Assist the Network Lead with the effective management of the operational budget, through the promotion of effective repairs once a full investigation has been undertaken
  • Representing the company during incidents with outside agencies such as the emergency services, EHO, Local government etc
  • Emergency Response – provision and testing of appropriate functional contingency plans
  • Participating in a Standby rota to ensure we offer the highest standards to our customer 24hrs a day
  • Effective Liaison with Highway Authorities with regards to Streetworks defects
  • Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.
About you

These are essential for the role:

  • Full and valid driving licence
  • It would be benefical if you had a Civil Engineering background, qualified to HNC
  • An ability to think strategically but also able to ensure effective day to day delivery of services
  • Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships
  • Committed and hard working
  • Able to asses risk and adopt a safe working practice to undertake task
  • Wastewater experience is not required as training will be provided.
Good to know
  • Standby requirement (1 in every 7 weeks)
  • 7 week working pattern which covers between 7am-7pm.
