Job summary

Randstad CPE is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor for an iconic highways infrastructure project in South West England. The role focuses on subcontract management, cost control, and value optimisation across earthworks and road widening works.

The ideal candidate will have highways/civils exposure, strong IT skills (Excel, Word, CEMAR/Oracle) and professional qualification (MRICS/MCIOB) or working towards it. You will report to the commercial lead on site.

Qualifications

• Experience with highways/highways civils projects desired.
• Strong IT skills including Excel, Word, and contract/cost management systems.
• Professional qualification such as MRICS or MCIOB (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Participate in creating a safe working environment.
• Produce subcontract documentation including negotiation of terms, prices, and programme.
• Manage subcontract works packages including interim assessments and change management.
• Produce and issue commercial notices to Client and Subcontractors as required.
• Submit monthly applications to the Client in line with contract forms.
• Liaise with site teams to keep accurate records and produce CVRs and cost reports.

Job description

A Major Tier 1 contractor are looking to expand their team with a Quantity Surveyor in the Infrastructure division, supporting the successful delivery of their new GBP300m highways project in South West Engalnd. Scope of works include enabling earthworks, widening to the existing road, new link road and various structures.

What Will You Be Doing

• Participate in creating a safe working environment.
• Produce Subcontract documentation including negotiation of terms and conditions, prices, and programme.
• Management of subcontract works packages including, interim assessments of the amount due and subsequent change management.
• Produce and issue all commercial notices, to both the Client and Subcontractors, as required by the form of contract.
• Manage change in a timely manner in accordance with the form of contract, including the production and submission of Compensation Event Quotations.
• Produce, submit, and agree monthly applications, to the Client, in accordance with the form of contract.
• Liaise with operational and engineering staff to ensure site records are kept to the standard required.
• Produce detailed monthly reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR) as required by the business unit or project.
• Produce and maintain a detailed Cost Plan, tracking and forecasting expenditure, including detailed schedules of Subcontractor liabilities and use of Oracle based cost analyses.
• Interpret and critically evaluate expenditure reports produced by internal cost systems.
• Attending weekly progress and risk reduction meetings with the client and subcontractors.
• Apply the principles of Doing the right thing in maximising value and profit.
• Be available to assist estimating and bid teams with contractual expertise.

About You

Good appreciation of standard forms of contract.

• Exposure on Highways / Heavy Civils projects
• Strong IT skills including Excel, Word and Contractual and Cost Management Systems (CEMAR, Oracle).
• Strong stakeholder management andcommunication capabilities.
• Solid knowledge of construction processes.
• First class time and outcome management skills.
• Professional qualification such as MCIOB or MRICS,ideally Incorporated member, working towards full membership (Desirable).
• Relevant degree and/or experience of working in a relevant Commercial environment.
• CSCS appropriate.
