Job summary

RG Setsquare in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team specialising in painting, decorating, planned maintenance and refurbishment projects. You will drive commercial success by managing cost plans, valuations and contract negotiations from tender through to final account.

With a strong focus on building relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers, you will identify opportunities, monitor budgets and ensure projects remain financially robust across

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Quantity Surveying role within construction, refurbishment, maintenance or property services.
  • Experience managing contracts and projects with annual values up to £2 million.
  • Strong commercial awareness and cost control throughout tender to final account.
  • Knowledge of Schedule of Rates (SOR) contracts.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with commercial and operational teams.
  • A proactive approach with a keen eye for commercial opportunities and continuous improvement.
  • Experience within painting, decorating, planned maintenance or social housing environments would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing accurate estimates and cost plans for tenders and contracts.
  • Producing cost value reconciliations and monitoring project performance.
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout project lifecycles.
  • Supporting operational teams with budgets, labour targets and cost control measures.
  • Managing valuations, variations and contract negotiations.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Reviewing weekly project performance reports, including costs, productivity and progress.
  • Assisting with the successful commercial delivery of projects through to final account.
  • Health and safety, commercial compliance and quality standards will be central to everything you do.

Role and Responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor

As part of our commercial team, you will be responsible for the effective financial management of projects across Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

Your duties will include:
