Job summary

KPJ Group in Southend-on-Sea is seeking a Quality Manager to own the Quality Management System and lead a small inspection team within a precision engineering environment.

The role requires direct aerospace quality experience and strong FAIR/LAIR capabilities, with responsibility for AS9100 / ISO 9100 compliance, calibration, audits, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Direct aerospace quality experience required.
• Strong FAIR/LAIR experience essential.
• Experience working to AS9100 / ISO 9100.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience conducting internal and external audits.
• Previous leadership or team-leading experience.
• Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the site's Quality Management System.
• Lead and prioritise the workload of the inspection team.
• Maintain quality standards in line with AS9100/ISO 9100 requirements.
• Create and approve FAIRs/LAIRs.
• Manage calibration, testing, qualification and approvals.
• Plan and carry out internal and external quality audits.
• Oversee inspection and verification of components during production.
• Drive continuous improvement and reduce quality errors.
• Manage customer and quality issues as required.
• Identify training, resource and development needs within the team.
• Support inspection activity when needed.

Job description

We're looking for a Quality Manager to join a specialist precision engineering business in Southend.

This is a role suited to someone with strong aerospace quality experience and hands-on knowledge of FAIRs, as you will be taking ownership of the Quality Management System and providing clear direction to a small inspection team.

What will you be doing as a Quality Manager?

• Taking ownership of the site's Quality Management System
• Leading and prioritising the workload of the inspection team
• Maintaining quality standards in line with AS9100 / ISO 9100 requirements
• Creating and approving FAIRs / LAIRs
• Managing calibration, testing, qualification and associated approvals
• Planning and carrying out internal and external quality audits
• Overseeing inspection and verification of components throughout production
• Driving continuous improvement and reducing quality errors
• Managing customer and quality issues as required
• Identifying training, resource and development needs within the team
• Supporting inspection activity directly when additional cover is required

What will you need?

• Direct aerospace quality experience - essential
• Strong FAIR / LAIR experience - essential
• Experience working to AS9100 / ISO 9100
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Experience conducting internal and external audits
• Previous leadership, supervisory or team-leading experience
• Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems

Applicants from defence, automotive or nuclear manufacturing may also be considered where they have strong transferable quality experience, although aerospace and FAIR experience remain the key requirements.
