Job summary

Comton Group in Shrewsbury is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead the Quality function in a manufacturing and engineering environment. You will drive continuous improvement, ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements and maintain the Quality Management System in line with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.

You will manage audits, corrective actions and supplier quality, mentor the Quality team and collaborate with Production, Engineering and Maintenance to deliver high product

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Quality Manager in manufacturing.
• Automotive sector experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
• Experience with ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 is desirable.
• Experience with audits, CAPAs and 8D problem solving.

Quality Manager

Location: Shrewsbury

Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quality Manager to join an established manufacturing and engineering business.

This is a senior quality role with responsibility for leading the Quality function and driving the continued development of the company's Quality Management System. You will work closely with senior management and teams across Production, Engineering and Maintenance to ensure high standards of product quality, compliance and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will ideally come from a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive, with strong knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 9001, alongside experience with environmental and health & safety management systems.

The Role

As Quality Manager, you will take ownership of the company's quality assurance and quality control activities, ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory and statutory requirements.

You will lead the Quality team, manage audits and corrective actions, support customer quality requirements and drive improvements across processes, suppliers and overall business performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, develop and continually improve the Quality Management System in line with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
• Oversee the company's ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Plan and coordinate internal, customer, process, product and external certification audits.
• Lead management reviews and maintain accurate quality documentation and records.
• Lead, mentor and develop Quality Inspectors and Engineers.
• Identify and deliver process improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, 5 Why, 8D and root-cause analysis.
• Analyse process capability, scrap, rework, cost of quality and audit performance.
• Manage customer 8D responses, containment and corrective actions.
• Support PPAP, APQP and other customer-specific quality submissions.
• Work closely with suppliers to monitor quality performance and manage corrective actions.
• Support supplier approval, audits and the introduction of new suppliers and processes.
• Monitor relevant standards, legislation and customer requirements.

About You

• Proven experience working as a Quality Manager within a manufacturing environment.
• Manufacturing experience, ideally within the automotive sector.
• Strong knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
• Lead Auditor experience/qualification would be highly desirable.
• Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Experience managing and preparing for certification and surveillance audits.
• Strong knowledge of 8D, PPAP, APQP, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience with Lean and/or Six Sigma.
• A relevant degree in Engineering, Quality Management or a related discipline would be advantageous, although equivalent demonstrable experience will be considered.
