Quality Manager
Location: West Midlands
Salary: Circa £50,000 per annum, depending on experience
Employment: Full-time, permanent
An established specialist manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to take ownership of its quality systems, product standards and continuous improvement activities.
This is a hands‑on role, working closely with production and senior management to ensure quality requirements are consistently met across the manufacturing process. The position would suit someone who combines strong quality management knowledge with a practical approach to resolving issues and improving performance on the shop‑floor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop the Quality Management System, maintaining alignment with ISO 9001 requirements and relevant customer specifications.
- Lead internal audits and coordinate preparation for external, customer and certification audits.
- Oversee quality control throughout incoming materials, production and finished product inspection.
- Investigate non-conformances, customer complaints and supplier quality issues, implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Work with production teams to identify the causes of defects, reduce waste and prevent recurring quality problems.
- Maintain clear inspection procedures, quality records and product traceability.
- Ensure inspection and measuring equipment is appropriately maintained and calibrated.
- Monitor quality performance and report trends, risks and improvement priorities to senior management.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers on quality requirements, technical queries and corrective actions.
- Support employee training and encourage consistent ownership of quality across the business.
Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience as a Quality Manager, Quality Lead or Senior Quality Engineer within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and practical experience maintaining and improving quality management systems.
- Experience conducting audits and managing non-conformances through to resolution.
- A sound understanding of inspection processes, manufacturing controls and technical specifications.
- Confidence using structured root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with shop‑floor teams, customers and senior management.
- A practical, organised approach and the confidence to challenge processes constructively.
- Experience within metal processing, component manufacture or a comparable industrial production environment would be advantageous, as would a relevant engineering or quality qualification and internal or lead auditor training.
