The job requirements are detailed below.
At Gateshead College, quality isn’t simply about processes, frameworks or compliance. It’s about making sure every learner receives the education, support and opportunities they need to succeed.
We’re looking for an experienced and values-driven Quality Manager to join our Quality team and help us continue to raise standards across the College and our partnership provision.
This is a varied and influential role. You’ll work closely with our Head of Quality Assurance, line manage our team of Quality Reviewers and take a particular lead on the quality and compliance of our subcontracted provision, including adult education.
We’re looking for someone who can combine excellent attention to detail with sound judgement, credibility and the confidence to step up and lead.
What will you be doing?
You’ll play a key role in making sure that our learners receive a consistently high-quality experience, whether their learning is delivered directly by Gateshead College or through one of our partners.
You will:
More importantly, we’re looking for the right person
Knowledge and experience matter, but how you work matters just as much to us.
You’ll be someone who:
Puts learners first. You never lose sight of why quality assurance exists. Behind every dataset, review and action plan are learners whose education, progress and future opportunities matter.
Has integrity. You’ll be trusted with sensitive information and sometimes difficult judgements. You’ll be honest, fair and courageous enough to say when something isn’t good enough, while working constructively with people to make it better.
Is curious and evidence-led. You won’t accept something simply because \"that’s how we’ve always done it\". You’ll ask good questions, triangulate evidence and want to understand what is really happening and, importantly, what difference it is making for learners.
Has a keen eye for detail. You’ll spot the things others might miss, whether that is a compliance risk, an inconsistency in data, a missed action or a pattern emerging across provision.
Can support and challenge in equal measure. Great quality assurance should help people improve. You’ll build strong relationships while being comfortable asking difficult questions and holding people to account when necessary.
Is calm and credible. There will be competing priorities, inspection activity and occasions when you need to step up. You’ll be able to think clearly, make sensible judgements and provide confidence to others.
Is collaborative. Quality belongs to everyone. You’ll enjoy working across curriculum teams and with external partners rather than operating as the \"quality police\".
Has high expectations. You believe our learners deserve excellent provision and you’ll bring energy, persistence and professional curiosity to helping us achieve it.
What are we looking for?
You’ll bring significant experience of quality assurance and improvement within further education, skills, adult learning or a similar regulated environment.
You’ll need strong knowledge of Ofsted inspection expectations, awarding organisation requirements and Ofqual, alongside the ability to analyse evidence and performance information and turn it into clear judgements and improvement actions.
Experience of managing or quality assuring subcontracted or partnership provision is highly desirable, particularly where this has involved monitoring performance, compliance, risk and improvement.
Previous experience of leading or managing people is important, along with excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
Above all, we are looking for someone with high standards, sound judgement, integrity and a genuine commitment to college values, education and learners.
