Job overview

Help us turn evidence into meaningful improvement

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Quality, Standards and Performance team at Gateshead College as a Quality Reviewer.

This is a varied and influential role for someone who is passionate about quality, has a keen eye for detail and wants to help improve learners’ experiences and outcomes. You will work across the College’s full range of provision, including education programmes for young people, adult education, apprenticeships, provision for learners with high needs and higher education.

Working collaboratively with curriculum, apprenticeship, support, partnership and professional services teams, you will provide independent, evidence-led assurance of the quality of our provision. You will identify effective practice, ask constructive and sometimes challenging questions, and help teams translate review findings into practical and measurable improvement.

What you’ll be doing

As a Quality Reviewer, you will:

  • plan, coordinate and undertake quality reviews across different areas and provision types;
  • carry out departmental and learner journey reviews, themed reviews, deep dives, learning visits and other quality assurance activity;
  • gather and triangulate evidence through data, documentation, observations and learner, apprentice, employer and stakeholder feedback;
  • evaluate the quality and impact of teaching, training, assessment, feedback, progress reviews, learner support, personal development and employer engagement;
  • produce clear, concise and evidence-led reports that identify strengths, areas for improvement, risks and required actions;
  • support self-assessment, quality improvement planning, moderation and validation;
  • follow up agreed actions to establish whether improvements have been implemented, sustained and made a positive difference;
  • identify and share effective and Gateshead Gold practice across the College;
  • contribute to continuous inspection readiness and help colleagues understand external expectations in plain English; and
  • work with partners and subcontractors to help assure the quality of externally delivered provision.

At the heart of the role is our Employment Edge for Everyone ethos. You will help us understand whether every learner, whatever their background, age or starting point, experiences high expectations, the right support and challenge, a strong sense of belonging, and meaningful preparation for work, further study and life.

About you

You will be naturally curious, analytical and improvement focused. You will be confident working with both quantitative and qualitative evidence and able to reach balanced, well-supported conclusions.

You will also be able to build positive professional relationships, gain the trust of colleagues and act as a constructive critical friend. You will know how to ask challenging questions and provide honest, supportive feedback while maintaining professional independence and objectivity.

You should have:

  • experience of applying quality systems, procedures or standards;
  • experience of reviewing practice and producing clear, evaluative reports;
  • the ability to analyse performance data and qualitative evidence to identify strengths, risks, themes and impact;
  • knowledge of quality assurance and continuous improvement within further education and skills;
  • a working knowledge of Ofsted expectations and evidence-led self-assessment and improvement planning;
  • an understanding of the different features of the College’s main provision types;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • strong analytical, numerical and digital skills;
  • the ability to organise multiple activities, meet deadlines and maintain accurate records; and
  • a relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent professional experience.

Experience across more than one area of further education provision, or within partner or subcontracted provision, would be an advantage, as would a relevant quality, teaching, assessment, internal quality assurance, leadership or management qualification.

The role involves working across College campuses and, where required, visiting partner, subcontracted and external delivery locations. You should therefore be able and willing to travel between sites.
