Quality Engineer

Newton, Cambridgeshire

The Quality Engineer, based in Newton, Cambridge UK, is responsible for Quality Control & Quality Assurance for the Cambridge sites, including, but not limited to, Quality Management System (QMS), nonconforming materials, document control, product quality, and customer returns.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on with the ability to nurture and train others and have demonstrated effective application of corrective action methodologies, and proven ability to drive permanent corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Management System (QMS):

  • Responsibility for ISO9001:2015 QMS to assure its continuous compliance, suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness.
  • Assist with adherence to the Quality Management System through internal auditing.

QualityControl & Assurance Lead:

  • Monitor and report on product quality and performance.
  • Ensures that procedures for process control, process improvement, test and inspection exist and are adhered too.
  • Create control and sampling plans.
  • Perform review and maintain First Article Inspection Reports and other product Qualifications.
  • Help maintain and audit the calibration process and act as liaison between calibration vendors and local sites.
  • Support part qualifications, internally and within the supply chain

Return Material Authorization (RMA’s):

  • Supports engineering teams efforts by providing a feedback loop collating information gained through RMA analysis, customer & supplier feedback, and yield analysis in a timely manner.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA):

  • Support root-cause analysis and other problem-solving activities to identify effective corrective & preventive actions and process improvements within operations.
  • Support supplier and customer visits for root cause analysis and verification of corrective & preventive actions of quality issues.
  • Drive suppliers Route Cause Analysis (RCA) through the Supplier Corrective Action Reporting (SCAR) system.
  • Support the internal processes
  • Material Review Board (MRB) meetings & Nonconforming analysis & reporting (NCR)
  • Initiates and implements quality improvement activities as appropriate to improve the performance of the company’s products & processes.

Skills and Experience:

As an ideal candidate for the role of Quality Engineer, you should:

  • Be able to embrace personal challenge and have excellent people skills with the ability to influence others.
  • Be focused, target driven with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Have experience of working within a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of ISO9001:2015 QMS.
  • Have experience in internal auditing.
  • Be experienced in problem solving, analysis, judgement and decision making for complex problems, using root cause analysis tools.
  • Display good verbal and written communications and the ability to multitask.
  • Have a good understanding of Microsoft Excel and office suite
  • Have the ability to discuss technical problems with customers, suppliers, engineers, and senior management teams.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal travel expected to visit suppliers and customers as required.
