Quality Assurance & Compliance Officer - 15 Month FTC

    Please note, this is an initial 15-month contract to cover maternity leave with the potential to become permanent.

    Working hours are Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm.

    Please note, we are looking for candidates specifically from a clinical, biochemistry or hematology background.

  • As a Quality Assurance & Compliance Officer, you will:
  1. Provide operational support in maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS) and assist with compliance to ISO standards and Health & Safety processes within the Clinical Diagnostics laboratory.
  2. Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the QMS (Q-Pulse) with its associated ISO or other regulatory standards, including document control, logging non-conformities, trending corrective actions, and opportunities for improvement.
  3. Deputise for the Deputy Quality Manager within scope, act as a UKAS contact when required, ensuring timely management of UKAS assessment findings, with documentation of root causes, impacts, and completion of agreed actions by submission deadlines.
  4. Train laboratory staff in applicable health and safety requirements, quality inductions, document control, non-conformities, change management, and auditing techniques when required. Develop training materials and presentations to assist with this, in liaison with other lead scientists.
  5. Coordinate and organise annual temperature monitoring probes and pipette calibration services between clinical diagnostics and genetics, reviewing, following up, or escalating actions raised by suppliers.
  6. Ensure all equipment records, calibration, and monitoring are carried out by relevant laboratory staff and that appropriate records are maintained.
  7. Support the quality team in the preparation and coordination of internal and external audits by compiling documentation and maintaining audit schedules.
  8. Help ensure quality documentation, including procedures, IQC/EQA, and the Quality Manual, are kept up to date.
  9. Monitor and log non-conformities, escalating overdue actions to the Deputy Quality Manager.
  10. Assist in organising monthly and bimonthly meetings.
  11. Support the maintenance of records of staff training in quality and health & safety requirements.
  12. Work with training coordinators to ensure the laboratory, management, and medical training matrix is up to date.
  13. Assist in incident reporting processes and coordinate Health & Safety inspections.

Qualifications and experience required:

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent in Biomedical Science or a related field.
  2. Active CPD portfolio within the field.
  3. Experience in Change Management.
  4. Experience supporting a quality management system: ISO 9001, ISO 15189.
  5. Experience performing various types of audits.
  6. Experience with document control software such as Q-Pulse, including uploading and reviewing documentation.
  7. Experience in assay validation/verification pre-acceptance testing.
  8. Experience of writing and reviewing SOPs.
  9. Experience handling adverse incidents and performing root cause analysis.
  10. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  11. Proactive approach to tasks.
