Job summary

Citizens Advice Croydon is seeking a Qualified/Trainee Debt Adviser in Croydon. The role is a 35-hour week, hybrid work, fixed-term contract until 31 March 2028, with salary £27,269 - £33,366.

Qualifications

• Ideally have the required specialist debt advice accreditation and training to casework level.
• Trainee appointments will be considered with on-the-job training provided.
• Experience in providing advice at a generalist level or knowledge of financial services may be suitable.

Responsibilities

• Assess each client's situation in depth and identify the best strategies to resolve debt issues.
• Negotiate with creditors to prevent escalation and protect vulnerable clients.
• Guide and empower clients to understand options and take direct action where needed.
• Provide high-quality customer service in a warm, supportive environment.

Citizens Advice Croydon is a well established local charity serving the London Borough of Croydon. We make a meaningful difference to the lives of the people coming to us for help and support. The successful candidate will ideally have the required specialist debt advice accreditation and have completed training to casework level. However, we will consider appointing a trainee and to provide the training needed to achieve competence in this role. If you have experience of providing advice at generalist level or knowledge of financial services, a trainee opportunity like this may be for you.

In this role you will assess each client's situation in depth, identifying the most appropriate strategies to resolve their debt issues while exploring every opportunity to maximise income. You will guide and empower clients to understand their options whilst taking direct action for those who are more vulnerable, such as negotiating with creditors to prevent escalation and protect the client from further harm.
