Job description

ROLE: QHSE Advisor

Join Mitie - the future of high performing places.

HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

LOCATION: Sellafield - Seascale

Are you an experienced QHSE professional looking for a role where you can make a real impact? Do you enjoy working closely with operational teams, supporting compliance, improving performance, and helping create safer workplaces?

Mitie is seeking an experienced QHSE Advisor to join a dynamic contract operating within a highly regulated environment. Supporting a diverse range of operational, technical and support services, this role offers the opportunity to work with a wide variety of stakeholders while helping drive excellence in quality, health, safety and environmental performance.

This position requires a practical, solutions-focused professional who can provide credible advice, recognise good practice, constructively challenge where improvements are needed, and support continual improvement across the contract.

Please Note

This is not an entry-level or trainee role. We are looking for an established QHSE professional with significant practical experience in advisory positions and a strong track record of working within complex, high-risk, safety-critical or highly regulated environments.

The Role

Reporting to the QHSE Manager, you will help maintain and improve the Integrated Management System, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, client requirements, company standards and industry best practice.

Working closely with managers, supervisors, employees, subcontractors and clients, you will:

  • Provide practical and professional QHSE advice and support.
  • Conduct audits, inspections and investigations.
  • Support compliance with quality, health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Analyse trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Promote positive behaviours and a proactive safety culture.
  • Support operational teams in managing risk and implementing effective controls.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of management systems and assurance activities.
About You

Could you confidently support operational teams in a demanding environment? Have you successfully influenced positive change, challenged poor practice where necessary, and helped improve safety performance?

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a QHSE Advisor role, or
  • At least 3 years' experience within a high-hazard, highly regulated or safety-critical environment.
  • A proven record of delivering QHSE improvements and supporting operational performance.
  • Strong knowledge of quality, health, safety and environmental management systems.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, incident investigations and assurance activities.
  • The ability to build positive working relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong communication, engagement and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently while remaining an effective member of a wider team.
Essential Requirements

Professional qualifications such as NEBOSH are required; however, qualifications alone are not sufficient for this position.

Have you applied your knowledge in the workplace? Can you demonstrate experience providing competent advice, supporting investigations, conducting audits, influencing decision-making and improving compliance in a demanding operational environment?

This role is intended for experienced practitioners who can quickly establish credibility and provide effective support from the outset.

Desirable Requirements
  • TechIOSH or CertIOSH membership (or actively working towards).
  • AIEMA membership or an equivalent environmental qualification.
  • Internal Auditor qualification for ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001.
