Job summary

Genomics England in the United Kingdom invites a Backend Python Software Engineer to design and build scalable backend services, REST APIs and cloud native applications on AWS. You will contribute to URD and the National Genomic Research Library as part of the RE Platform.

The role requires Python expertise, AWS experience, relational databases (RDS) and identity management (Okta). Collaboration with frontend, QA and Platform Engineers, and usage of GitLab, Jira and Confluence is expected.

Qualifications

• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Proven back-end development experience in Python.
• Experience with AWS and microservice architectures.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL (AWS RDS preferred).
• Designing, developing and consuming REST APIs.
• Identity management and authentication integrations (Okta or similar).
• Agile methodologies and test driven development.

Responsibilities

• Backend software development and design.
• Develop scalable Python code following best practices.
• Design and maintain microservices on AWS for reliability and efficiency.
• Create and maintain REST APIs for internal and external integrations.
• Work with relational databases including AWS RDS.
• Integrate identity management solutions such as Okta.
• Develop and enhance test automation frameworks.
