Job summary

Lonza in Slough, United Kingdom, is seeking a Senior Scientist for on-site, lab-based purification and downstream process development. You will design and execute purification studies and perform chromatography/filtration experiments to generate actionable data and drive process improvements.

The role requires hands-on DSP experience, data interpretation skills, and strong communication for technical reports.

Qualifications

• A degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline (postgraduate qualification advantageous).
• Practical laboratory experience in downstream processing, including chromatography and filtration techniques.
• Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and draw clear conclusions.
• Knowledge of DSP unit operations, including process optimisation and troubleshooting.
• Ability to design experiments and apply scientific principles to solve technical challenges.
• Strong communication and report-writing skills, with attention to detail and quality.
• A collaborative mindset with the ability to build effective working relationships and contribute to team success.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute laboratory-scale purification and primary recovery studies to support process and technology development
• Perform chromatography and filtration experiments, analysing complex datasets to generate meaningful insights
• Evaluate and optimise primary recovery technologies to improve process efficiency and performance
• Contribute to the assessment and implementation of emerging downstream processing technologies
• Deliver high-quality technical reports, documentation, and scientific recommendations
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Analytical, Upstream, and Manufacturing Science & Technology
• Maintain high standards of data integrity, safety, and laboratory organisation while supporting continuous improvement initiatives
