Job summary

Lonza Group Ltd. in Slough, United Kingdom, is seeking a Senior Scientist for on-site R&D purification. This laboratory-based role focuses on developing and optimising downstream processes that shape biologics manufacturing.

It is a permanent position with additional fixed-term contracts available, requiring hands-on experimentation five days per week. You will design and execute purification studies, conduct chromatography and filtration experiments, and contribute to technology assessment

Qualifications

• Degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline (postgraduate advantageous).
• Practical lab experience in downstream processing including chromatography and filtration techniques.
• Strong data analysis skills to interpret complex datasets and draw conclusions.
• Knowledge of DSP unit operations, process optimisation and troubleshooting.
• Ability to design experiments and apply scientific principles to solve technical challenges.
• Strong communication and report-writing skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute laboratory-scale purification and primary recovery studies.
• Perform chromatography and filtration experiments and analyse datasets.
• Evaluate and optimise primary recovery technologies to improve process efficiency.
• Assess and implement emerging downstream processing technologies.
• Deliver high-quality technical reports and scientific recommendations.
• Collaborate with Analytical, Upstream, and Manufacturing Science & Technology teams.
• Maintain data integrity, safety and lab organisation; support continuous improvement.
