Job summary

SRG is seeking a hands-on Downstream Process Development Scientist to join the bioprocessing team in Darlington. The role focuses on designing, developing, and optimising downstream purification processes for advanced biologics, including viral vectors and nucleic acid products.

You will run experiments in a fast-moving environment, perform DSP runs, and apply chromatography and filtration techniques. The role requires strong data interpretation, documentation, and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on lab experience in downstream purification
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge in Biologics Purification and Biochemical Engineering
  • Experience designing chromatography-based purification processes
  • Familiarity with ELISA, HPLC/UPLC techniques
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours around experiments

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimise downstream purification processes for biopharmaceutical products
  • Carry out hands-on laboratory experimentation and pilot-scale DSP runs
  • Apply chromatography and filtration techniques to improve yield, purity, and robustness
  • Operate chromatography methods using ÄKTA systems and develop purification strategies
  • Apply tangential flow filtration (TFF) and related DSP technologies
  • Analyse data and maintain high-quality records, presenting conclusions to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with upstream, analytical and project teams and support scale-up and troubleshooting
