Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is helping a welcoming school in Watford, Hertfordshire, recruit a Pastoral Officer to support pupil wellbeing and safeguarding on a full-time basis. You will provide day-to-day pastoral support, build trusting relationships with pupils, monitor attendance, and work with families, teachers and external partners to ensure pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people in school/youth settings.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships quickly.
• Excellent communication with pupils, parents, colleagues and external professionals.
• Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day pastoral support to pupils across the school.
• Build positive, respectful relationships with pupils.
• Act as first point of contact for personal, emotional, behavioural or social difficulties.
• Listen to pupils' concerns and provide support and reassurance.
• Identify welfare or safeguarding concerns and report through appropriate channels.
• Work with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and pastoral team.
• Monitor attendance and punctuality and follow up concerns.
• Maintain confidential pastoral records.
• Communicate with parents and carers regarding attendance, behaviour and wellbeing.
• Collaborate with teachers and leaders to implement support strategies.
• Liaise with external agencies and professionals as required.
• Support groups of pupils through targeted interventions.
• Contribute to assemblies and wellbeing initiatives.
