Job summary

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Switchboard Operator to be the first point of contact for the public and Trust staff, handling calls with professionalism and acting as an ambassador for the Trust.

Working in a small team, you will answer, transfer and log calls, support emergencies and maintain directory databases and on-call rotas while providing courteous, empathetic service to all callers, including distressed or non-English-speaking individuals.

Responsibilities

• Answer and transfer incoming calls promptly and professionally using the computerised switchboard.
• Provide a courteous, empathetic and supportive service to callers, including distressed, bereaved or non-English-speaking callers.
• Maintain accurate directory databases and on-call rotas.
• Operate paging and bleeping systems, using appropriate medical terminology when communicating with clinical staff.
• Respond to general enquiries regarding clinics, visiting times, accommodation, directions and Trust services.
• Log and upscale out-of-hours Estates calls and other service requests to relevant on-call staff.
• Handle GP and District Nursing enquiries and relay information to appropriate clinical teams.
• Respond efficiently to emergency situations following Trust procedures.
