Location: This is regional role so location is negotiable / Hybrid Working

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

We have two exciting opportunities for Public Health Scientist's to join the Water Quality team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Where you fit in:

As our Public Health Scientist you will

  • This is a key role delivering regulatory compliance and ensuring the public health of our customers. You will work as part of the Public Health Team to provide expert technical support to implement the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations. You will be a key advisor in respect of both technical and regulatory aspects of public health and water quality.
  • Working in collaboration with Water Service Delivery Teams, you will investigate events and water quality breaches to deliver timely regulatory reports for external stakeholders, including the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), UKHSA and Local Authorities. This will be following the company's root cause analysis methodology and with a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and measures, including Compliance Risk Index and Event Risk Index.
  • Part of the role will be carrying out water quality audits on Yorkshire Water colleagues and reviewing procedures to ensure conformance with industry best practice. You will ensure the provision of water quality data and technical interpretation to colleagues, facilitating day to day water production and supply activity. You will also deliver training to internal and external colleagues on drinking water hygiene and safety.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • The successful candidate will have a Scientific degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in these areas. You will have a strong understanding of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations and current drinking water regulation at local, national and European level. You will also have a thorough understanding of water treatment processes and the operational and quality issues affecting drinking water supply.
  • You will have previous experience in incident management and failure investigation/recovery including root cause analysis methodology. You will be able to analyse complex, technical information and solve problems, often under pressure and to deadlines. You will also consider health and safety at all times and support a zero-accident culture.
  • You will be a confident communicator, able to build up successful relationships at all levels within Yorkshire Water, service partner organisations and other key stakeholders. You will have previous experience of delivering training and producing written reports. You will also be comfortable using a wide range of IT systems, particularly the MS Office suite.
  • You will hold a full valid driving licence, as there will be travel to operational sites as part of the role. We ask you have fewer than 6 points on your driving licence.
