The University of Manchester Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies is seeking a postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) to assist with data collection and processing for the project titled "Translation as Method in Global Mental Health," funded by BA/Leverhulme Small Grant.
The project, led by Dr. Anna Strowe (PI) and Dr. Richard Fay (Co-I), aims to evaluate how Translation and Interpreting (T&I) are utilized in Global Mental Health (GMH) research, focusing on reporting and understanding of methodology. It runs from 1 July 2025 to 1 March 2026, with key outputs including a bibliometric analysis and a discourse analysis study.
The PDRA position involves 240 hours, primarily during July-September 2025, with flexible scheduling. Responsibilities include establishing parameters for collecting a corpus of recent GMH research articles, developing protocols for processing and coding these articles, and contributing to analysis and writing, particularly in October-February 2026. The candidate will be listed as a co-author on publications resulting from their data collection efforts.
Applicants should have research experience (PhD or equivalent) in translation studies, global mental health, applied linguistics, or a related field, and be comfortable navigating academic journals and reading scholarly papers. Shortlisted candidates will need to submit a writing sample before interviews.
Note that this role does not qualify for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route; candidates must demonstrate their right to work in the UK. The position is fully remote and offers access to the university’s researcher development resources.
Benefits include a market-leading pension scheme, health and wellbeing services, generous annual leave, Christmas closure, and discounts at major retailers. The university is committed to equal opportunity and flexible working arrangements.
