Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Protection Field Engineer to help ensure the reliability and resilience of the transmission network as part of a multi-site team.

The role covers commissioning of new protection assets, maintenance, outage management and 24/7 standby responsibilities. A UK driving license is required due to site travel and remote locations across Scotland and the north of the country.

Qualifications

• Qualification in a relevant electrical engineering subject (HNC level with an apprenticeship or relevant experience desirable).
• Experience and knowledge of power system protection up to 400kV.
• Ability to read protection single line, schematic and block diagrams.
• Experience testing and fault-finding on secondary wiring and auxiliary equipment with protection IEDs.
• SAP or HV switching authorisations up to 400kV advantageous or working towards this.

Responsibilities

• Ensure protection and control systems meet reliability standards.
• Support commissioning and outage management of high voltage protection assets.
• Assist in field protection work including maintenance and budget considerations.
• Willingness to travel to various locations and work on remote sites.
