Job summary

National Grid plc seeks an experienced Protection and Control Trainer to join the Global Technical Learning team at the Eakring Training Centre in the UK. This full-time, on-site role focuses on designing and delivering advanced Protection and Control training for technicians and engineers across the UK transmission and distribution network.

The role requires a minimum of three years’ experience in protection/commissioning, a TP141 authorisation, and strong mentoring and training delivery

Qualifications

• Three years' experience maintaining or commissioning substation light current equipment on transmission or distribution networks.
• TP141 Commissioning Engineer authorisation (current or recently expired).
• SAP 1 authorisation (desirable).
• Extensive knowledge of modern protection and control equipment.
• Experience using protection relay manufacturer software packages (advantageous).
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or HNC (or equivalent) in engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deliver engaging Protection and Control training programmes for engineers and technicians.
• Create blended learning solutions combining practical and classroom-based learning.
• Deliver training on transmission and distribution procedures, commissioning activities and maintenance documentation.
• Purchase, developing and building protection relay training equipment and learning aids.
• Manage trainee performance during on-the-job and off-the-job learning.
• Conduct NVQ/QCF assessments.
• Prepare risk assessments and method statements for safe training delivery.
• Operate within the training quality assurance framework.
• Support training governance activities and deputise for the Training Manager when required.
• Manage customer enquiries and contribute to technical training projects.
