Job summary

Position 1 Recruitment in Watton is seeking a Proposal Engineer to manage technical and commercial aspects of customer enquiries and tenders from initial review through to contract award and handover.

You will work with customers, suppliers, sales, purchasing and design teams to ensure proposals are technically compliant, commercially accurate and delivered within agreed timescales. Occasional travel within the UK and overseas may be required.

Proposal Engineer – Watton – £32,000–£38,000 DOE

As Proposal Engineer, you will be responsible for managing technical and commercial aspects of customer enquiries and tenders, from initial review through to contract award and handover. You will work closely with customers, suppliers, sales, purchasing and design teams to ensure proposals are technically compliant, commercially accurate and delivered within agreed timescales.

• Review and interpret customer enquiries, specifications and technical documentation to establish project requirements.
• Develop initial concepts and prepare detailed, professional tender submissions within customer deadlines.
• Respond to technical queries and provide ongoing clarification throughout the tender process.
• Work closely with the Sales team to support enquiries through to successful order placement.
• Prepare comprehensive and accurate contract handover documentation for the Design team.
• Participate in bid clarification meetings, including occasional travel within the UK and overseas where required.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from approved and potential suppliers for purchased components and equipment.
• Produce project cost estimates and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for equipment including heater packages, pressure vessels, LV switchgear, instrumentation, control panels and associated items.
• Develop detailed cost build-ups using relevant international standards, project specifications, schematics, single-line diagrams and customer requirements.
• Review the technical and commercial aspects of purchase orders to ensure compliance with agreed proposals.
• Maintain accurate project and customer information within internal estimating and CRM systems.
• Liaise with suppliers and negotiate pricing, technical requirements and commercial terms where necessary.
• Work alongside the Purchasing team to identify, assess and develop suitable sub-suppliers.
• Complete contract reviews for new sales orders.
• Carry out thorough checks of proposals and contract handover documentation to ensure company procedures and quality standards are met.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date CRM records, ensuring all relevant communications and information are recorded promptly.
