Job summary

Coates Recruitment is seeking a Proposal Engineer to join its technical team in Watton. You’ll work closely with the Technical Director, Sales and Design to develop technically and commercially competitive solutions for bespoke projects.

From initial enquiry through order and handover, you’ll review requirements, prepare proposals and costings, and support customers with queries. A strong engineering background and a commercial mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• An engineering qualification or relevant technical experience.
• Experience in engineering, manufacturing or technical environments.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specs.
• Strong communication skills with customers and suppliers.
• Good attention to detail.
• Commercial mindset with interest in costing and engineering solutions.
• Good organisational skills with multiple enquiries and deadlines.
• Experience in electrical, mechanical, manufacturing or control systems environments would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing customer enquiries, specifications and technical requirements.
• Preparing technical proposals, quotations and tender responses.
• Producing project estimates, costings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Supporting customers with technical queries throughout the tender process.
• Working with Sales, Design and suppliers to develop the right technical solution.
• Preparing accurate project information for handover to the Design team.

Role: Proposal Engineer

Location: Watton, Norfolk

Salary: £30,000 – £38,000 DOE

Coates Recruitment is working with a well-established and growing engineering manufacturer to recruit a Proposal Engineer to join their technical team.

This is a great opportunity for someone with an engineering background who enjoys the commercial and customer-facing side of engineering. You may already be working within proposals, applications, technical sales or a similar engineering role and be looking for the opportunity to develop your technical and commercial experience.

The Role

Working closely with the Technical Director, Sales and Design teams, you'll help develop technical and commercially competitive solutions for bespoke engineering projects.

You'll be involved from initial customer enquiry through to order placement and project handover.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing customer enquiries, specifications and technical requirements
• Preparing technical proposals, quotations and tender responses
• Producing project estimates, costings and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Supporting customers with technical queries throughout the tender process
• Working with Sales, Design and suppliers to develop the right technical solution
• Preparing accurate project information for handover to the Design team

The Person

We're keen to speak with people who have a technical or engineering background and are interested in developing within a commercially focused engineering role.

You may currently be working as a Proposal Engineer, Applications Engineer, Sales Engineer, Technical Sales Engineer, Estimator, Junior Project Engineer or in another similar engineering position.

You’ll ideally have:

• An engineering qualification or relevant technical experience
• Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing or technical environment
• The ability to understand technical drawings, specifications or engineering documentation
• Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with customers and suppliers
• Good attention to detail
• A commercial mindset with an interest in costing and developing engineering solutions
• Good organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple enquiries and deadlines
• Experience within electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, control systems or another technical engineering environment would be beneficial.
