Job summary

WPS is seeking a Project Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial delivery on planned maintenance and refurbishment works for a major housing client.

The role focuses on HRB projects in occupied social housing, requiring a proactive, client-facing approach and strong cost control. Experience with JCT/NEC contracts is desirable, with a progression path within a growing contractor.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Project Surveyor within social housing, planned maintenance, refurbishment, or construction.

• Previous involvement in HRB, refurbishment, or D&B projects.

About The Role

WPS is looking for an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to join our team delivering planned maintenance and refurbishment works for a major council housing client. This is a commercially focused role managing projects within occupied social housing, including work on High-Rise Residential Buildings (HRBs). We're seeking a confident and capable Surveyor with strong commercial acumen, excellent client management skills, and experience delivering complex maintenance or D&B refurbishment projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial delivery of planned maintenance projects from start to final account.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, CVRs, and commercial reports.
• Procure and manage subcontractors and supplier packages.
• Oversee valuations, applications for payment, and cost recovery.
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the programme.
• Build strong relationships with operational teams, clients, and supply chain partners.

Typical Works

• External refurbishment and building safety works.
• Roofing and structural improvements.
• Kitchen and bathroom replacement programmes.
• Fire safety, compliance, and HRB-related upgrades.
• General planned maintenance across occupied social housing stock.

About You

Essential

• Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Project Surveyor within social housing, planned maintenance, refurbishment, or construction.
• Strong commercial management and cost control experience.
• Previous involvement in HRB, refurbishment, or D&B projects.
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams and stakeholder relationships.
• Strong understanding of contract administration and commercial reporting.

Desirable

• HNC, HND, or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of JCT and/or NEC contracts.
• Experience working for a Tier 1 contractor, local authority framework, or social housing maintenance provider.
