We are seeking a talented Principal Project Manager to join our Project Management Office (PMO) and support the delivery of numerous projects within the WSP Planning, Property & Advisory team. Our clients include leading names in aviation, highway, rail, energy, and water industries, relying on WSP for expert Planning and Consents advice to ensure successful project starts. The Principal Project Manager will effectively manage a diverse team and serve as the primary client interface for project delivery.


Responsibilities include overseeing project delivery, defining objectives, resource planning, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards. The role involves project and commercial governance, stakeholder engagement, mentorship, and building strong client relationships to enhance business opportunities and project performance.

Your Role Includes:
  1. Managing project scope and change control processes.
  2. Reviewing and monitoring project timelines, critical paths, milestones, and reporting.
  3. Acting as the primary client interface for updates and expectation management.
  4. Managing project budgets, financial performance, and reporting.
  5. Forecasting, cost management, and Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting.
  6. Managing risks and opportunities aligned with client and business expectations.
  7. Resource and cost management to align forecasts with actuals.
  8. Implementing scheduling controls to meet program demands.
  9. Overseeing project controls using WSP and client systems.
  10. Ensuring adherence to quality procedures with technical teams.
  11. Promoting safety, health, and wellbeing of the project team.
  12. Leading opportunities and bids as required.
  13. Identifying process improvements for better delivery.
  14. Managing contracts, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  15. Leading a team of technical specialists and junior project managers.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of planning processes like Development Consent Orders, CPOs, Town and Country Planning Acts, or hybrid bill processes.

Candidate Requirements:
  • Relevant degree qualification.
  • Membership of a Professional Institution.
  • APMP Project Management Qualification (PMQ).
  • Strong questioning and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage detailed deliverables under deadlines.
  • Understanding of project management and controls for major infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Project, and Word.
  • Experience in regulated industries and managing cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of contracts, especially NEC contracts.
