Job description

I'm recruiting on behalf of my client for a Project Manager to join its Change Team during a significant period of business and technology transformation.

There is plenty of proper PM work here: planning, governance, risk, reporting, dependencies and delivery. But the hiring manager is equally interested in what you do when the project does not fit neatly into the plan.

Can you get into a project, work out where it really is, build relationships, ask useful questions, remove blockers and keep things moving without needing someone to hold your hand?

The portfolio is broad and priorities can move. Depending on when you join, you could pick up a defined work package within one of the major transformation programmes, BAU/legacy technology change, or a number of self-contained projects. The common thread is ownership and judgement.

This role does not offer visa sponsorship, so you’ll need to already have the right to work in the UK and be able to travel to the central Glasgow office when required.

What we are looking for
  • Strong hands-on project management experience, with evidence that you have independently owned and driven delivery.
  • Enough technical grounding to work credibly with software, infrastructure, data and technology teams. You do not need to be a developer, but you do need to be comfortable asking technical experts the right questions.
  • A proactive approach to risk and issues: attempt to solve the problem, bring options and escalated with context rather than simply reporting that something is red.
  • Strong stakeholder skills and the confidence to challenge constructively, create clarity and maintain visibility when priorities compete.
  • Adaptability and resilience. This is an active transformation environment, so the successful person needs to be comfortable when the route changes.
  • A genuine team mindset. The PM and BA functions are being brought closer together as part of a wider ambition to build a high-performing Change capability.
Experience

The written brief references 5+ years of PM experience, but this is not a hard cut-off. The level matters more than the number: Golden Charter is looking for who has seen enough delivery to work independently and credibly.

Experience in regulated environments and third-party supplier management is useful, but neither is a hard requirement.

  • 12-month fixed-term contract, with potential for a further 3-6 month extension
  • 28 days annual leave
  • Sick pay after probation

If you like being close enough to the detail to know what is really happening, but senior enough to create momentum around it, I would be interested in speaking to you.
