Job summary

Astute is seeking an experienced Project Manager to own and deliver engineering projects from initiation to closeout at Bridgwater Gateway, North Petherton, with site travel as required.

You will manage scope, programme, cost and risk, lead client communications, and coordinate across engineering, workshop and supply chain teams to ensure successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience delivering and controlling engineering or technical projects, with responsibility for programme, client communication and financial information.
  • HNC/HND, degree, apprenticeship or equivalent technical experience in an engineering or technically relevant discipline.
  • Good technical understanding and the ability to engage confidently with drawings, specifications, manufacturing or assembly processes and technical specialists.
  • Experience managing project budgets, forecasts, variations and commercial performance, with an understanding of contractual obligations.
  • Strong project controls experience, with the ability to identify gaps, manage competing priorities and maintain accurate project information.
  • Clear, concise and proactive communication skills, with confidence engaging with clients, suppliers and internal technical teams.
  • A practical, resilient and collaborative approach suited to a growing SME environment.
  • A Project Management qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience within regulated or highly technical industries would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of, and deliver end-to-end engineering projects, including scope, programme, budget, risk, quality and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project controls, logs, risk/issue registers, change control and progress reporting.
  • Read and understand project contracts, technical scopes, deliverables and key assumptions.
  • Lead project meetings and act as main day-to-day client contact with accurate, timely communication.
  • Coordinate engineering, workshop, supply chain and client activities, tracking dependencies and decisions.
  • Identify and manage project risks, changes and delays, escalating with clear actions.
  • Manage project commercial performance, including costs, forecasting, invoicing, variations and cash collection.
  • Support and develop Project Coordinators in controls and delivery, while contributing to bids and handovers.

Job description

Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a growing engineering SME to recruit a Project Manager on a permanent basis, based at their offices in Bridgwater Gateway, North Petherton, with travel to client and supplier sites as required. This is a hands-on project delivery role suited to an experienced Project Manager who is confident taking ownership of engineering projects from initialisation through to closeout. You will be responsible for managing scope, programme, cost, quality, risk, change and client expectations, while working closely with engineering, workshop, supply chain and commercial teams. If you are an experienced Project Manager with an engineering or technical project background and are looking for greater ownership within a growing SME environment.

Responsibilities and duties of the Project Manager role
  • Take ownership of the successful end-to-end delivery of assigned engineering projects, including scope, programme, budget, risk, quality and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain effective project controls, including project plans, action and decision logs, risk and issue registers, change control, cost forecasts and progress reporting.
  • Read and understand project contracts, technical scopes, deliverables, interfaces, acceptance requirements and key assumptions.
  • Lead project meetings and act as the principal day-to-day client contact, ensuring communication is accurate, timely and appropriately authorised.
  • Coordinate engineering, workshop, supply chain and client activities, monitoring progress against objective evidence and maintaining visibility of project dependencies and decisions.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks, changes, delays and non-conformances, escalating issues early with clear facts and recommended actions.
  • Manage project commercial performance, including costs, forecasting, invoicing, variations and cash collection, ensuring the company's contractual and commercial position is protected.
  • Support and develop Project Coordinators in project controls and delivery practices, while contributing to bids, project handovers and lessons learned.
Professional and Personal skills

The Project Manager role would suit someone who has:

Salary and benefits of the Project Manager role
  • 45,000 - 50,000
  • 37.5 hours per week
