Job description
Overview

We're currently recruiting for a Construction Project Manager to take the lead on a complex and wide-ranging civils and utilities scheme located near Leiston, East Anglia (IP16). This high-profile project involves a mix of structural and infrastructure works including drainage, groundworks, pavement and building construction, as well as elements such as ductile iron pipework, racking systems, and both concrete and steel structural components. As this is a self-delivery role where we are acting as Principal Contractor, it's vital that you bring a strong background in managing construction works in highly regulated environments. You'll be central to ensuring works are planned and executed to the highest safety, quality and performance standards while maintaining alignment with programme and commercial targets. Here are some of the activities you will get involved with…

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all construction activity on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Take ownership of the project programme and associated commercial performance.
  • Oversee and support operatives, subcontractors, and the wider team to deliver works to required standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Clancy's Management Systems, including the Construction Phase Plan, Environmental and Quality Plans.
  • Manage health, safety, environmental and quality performance - including RAMS, lifting operations and temporary works.
  • Provide strong visual leadership on site, promoting a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate reporting and project tracking, contributing to weekly reports and client updates.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the client, supply chain, and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor direct reports, promoting skills development and a high-performing team environment.
  • Encourage innovation and a value engineering mindset across all elements of project delivery.
Qualifications
  • You are a degree-qualified civil engineer (or have equivalent experience) with a CSCS card, SMSTS certification, and a full UK driving licence.
  • You'll bring significant experience managing civil engineering or utilities projects, with a strong grasp of CDM regulations, NEC contracts, and temporary works.
  • You should be confident in leading teams, overseeing site delivery, and handling commercial aspects including budgets and programme management.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to mentor and support staff in a collaborative environment.
  • Ideally, you'll hold or be working towards professional chartership (ICE, CIOB, CIHT, or APM) and may also have qualifications such as Temporary Works Supervisor, IOSH, ILM Level 3, or formal CDM and NRSWA training.
  • Familiarity with confined spaces, lifting operations, and large-scale or complex infrastructure works is a definite plus.
