Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is seeking a Project Information Manager in Birmingham to lead the information management function for the Midlands Rail Hub project. You will implement standards, drive digitalisation, and work with project teams, clients and regional IM teams to ensure robust information management across the project.

You will lead a small team, manage recruitment and training, and strive for continuous improvement in information processes and security.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading small to mid-size information management teams.
  • Proven ability to deliver information management on high-value, complex projects.
  • Client-facing experience and strong communication with stakeholders.
  • Technical knowledge of ISO 19650 and information management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Information Management team, including recruitment, development, training and retention.
  • Develop and communicate Information Standards, Methods and Procedures with Digital Engineer and regional team.
  • Establish roles, responsibilities and governance for the Information Management function.
  • Ensure information security and access controls are maintained.
  • Coordinate and produce project reporting and stakeholder communications.
  • Provide training and support on information management systems and processes.
  • Oversee archiving procedures and digital handover activities.

We are looking for an experienced and highly capable Project Information Manager to lead the delivery of an exceptional Information Management service across a high-value, complex project.


Role

As Project Information Manager, you will work collaboratively with project teams, functional leads, clients and regional Information Management teams to establish and maintain robust information management processes in line with ISO 19650 and organisational best practice.


You will lead the implementation of project information standards, systems and procedures while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through digitalisation and innovative use of existing technology.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead and manage the project Information Management team, including recruitment, development, training, performance management and retention.

  • Develop, agree and communicate project Information Standards, Methods and Procedures in collaboration with the Digital Engineer and Regional Information Management team.

  • Establish clear roles and responsibilities for the Information Management function.

  • Ensure appropriate information security and access controls are maintained.

  • Establish effective project communication and information management systems.

  • Coordinate and produce project reporting, including client and system reports.

  • Deliver training and ongoing support to project teams on information management systems and processes.

  • Manage quality procedures across administrative and document control activities.

  • Lead or facilitate the production of the project's digital handover, including system setup, reporting and stakeholder meetings.

  • Provide information management system support and training to the procurement team for tender documentation and addenda.

  • Establish and manage electronic and hard-copy archiving procedures in accordance with company policy.

  • Review project procedures and systems and share lessons learned and best practice with central functions.

  • Identify opportunities for further digitalisation, innovation and process improvement.

  • Participate in relevant business and functional forums and contribute to the wider Information Management community.

  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required by the project.


Experience


  • Experience of line managing and developing small teams.

  • Experience working on high-value, complex projects.

  • Previous experience in a client-facing role.

  • Strong technical Information Management capability.

  • Proven ability to lead, support, motivate and develop team members.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.

  • A proactive approach to planning, problem-solving and continuous improvement.


Technical Knowledge


  • Detailed knowledge of ISO 19650.

  • Strong understanding of quality management systems.

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word and Teams.

  • Expert knowledge of collaboration and Electronic Document Management Systems, preferably Asite.

  • Knowledge and practical experience of digital handover processes.

  • Experience implementing and supporting mobile quality management systems, preferably Field View.

  • Confident use of mobile technology, including tablets and smartphones.
