Job summary

Reed Specialist Recruitment is seeking a Project Engineer (Mechanical) in Northumberland for a permanent role with a salary of £45,000–£46,000. You will manage projects from inception to completion, liaising with design, development, installation and commissioning teams.

The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree (or HNC/HND with experience) and 3–5 years in mechanical engineering or capital projects, with proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, or HNC/HND with significant experience.
• 3-5 years of experience within mechanical engineering, capital project management, or similar environment.
• Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in engineering design software (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor).

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned projects from inception to completion, ensuring delivery against timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Prepare and present proposals for projects, including cost justifications and progress updates.
• Review and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications to ensure accuracy.
• Provide mechanical engineering expertise across design, development, installation, and commissioning phases.
• Produce and interpret 2D and 3D drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Identify and drive process improvements related to quality, machine efficiency, and safety.
• Advise on spare parts requirements and minimum stock levels.
• Evaluate potential subcontractors based on cost, delivery and quality metrics.
• Appoint and manage subcontractors, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure compliance with construction regulations and safety standards.

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: £45,000-£46,000

Location: Northumberland

Working Hours: 35.5 hours per week, early finish FridaysDay-to-day of the role:

• Manage assigned projects from inception to completion, ensuring delivery against agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Prepare and present proposals for projects, including cost justifications and progress updates.
• Review and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Provide mechanical engineering expertise across design, development, installation, and commissioning phases.

• Maintain oversight of activities requiring compliance with relevant construction regulations (e.g., CDM where applicable).
• Ensure all project activities adhere to recognised safety, environmental, and operational standards.
• Liaise with external regulatory bodies and authorities when required.
• Identify technical or site-specific issues and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, or HNC/HND with significant relevant experience.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience within mechanical engineering, capital project management, or a similar environment.
• Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor).
