Job summary

Orion Electrotech is seeking a Project Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Leicester. You will lead design and layouts using 2D AutoCAD and 3D Inventor, engaging with customers from initial enquiry through to site installation.

Working closely with manufacturing and installation teams, you will produce practical engineering solutions, prepare RAMS, and track progress across the full project lifecycle using ERP and project management tools.

Qualifications

• Strong CAD skills (Open 3D software - Inventor preferable but will consider Solidworks, Creo etc.)
• This role would suit a Junior with 2 years' experience or someone senior with 5+ years' experience
• Practical understanding of fabrication, manufacturing, or sheet metal processes.
• Excellent communication skills with the confidence to interact directly with customers and stakeholders.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Good IT skills and the ability to quickly adopt new software and systems.
• A proactive and solutions-focused approach to engineering challenges.

Responsibilities

• Producing engineering designs and layouts using 2D AutoCAD and 3D Inventor.
• Conducting site visits, surveys, and customer consultations to gather project requirements.
• Developing practical engineering solutions tailored to customer needs.
• Preparing RAMS to support installation activities.
• Liaising closely with manufacturing and fabrication teams to ensure designs are fit for production.
• Monitoring project progress and supporting successful delivery from concept through to installation.
• Utilising ERP and project management systems to plan, track, and manage project activities.
• Providing technical support to internal teams and customers throughout the project lifecycle.
