Job description

Fawkes & Reece (West) are currently working with a well-established contractor specialising in high-quality internal fit-out and construction projects, who are looking to appoint a Project Coordinator to join their team at their head office in Huntingdon.

This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, commercially minded construction professional looking to develop their career within a contractor environment. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced Project Managers, supporting projects from tender stage through procurement and into delivery.

The business is looking for someone with a good understanding of construction materials, suppliers and processes who is keen to broaden their experience across estimating, procurement and project coordination. You do not need to be an experienced Estimator or Quantity Surveyor for this position; practical construction knowledge, commercial awareness and a proactive approach are key.

The Role

As Project Coordinator, you will provide essential commercial and administrative support to the Project Management team, helping to ensure tenders and live projects are effectively coordinated, costed and delivered.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Project Managers with tender enquiries from initial receipt through to submission.
  • Issuing tender packages and enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers and following these through to quotation.
  • Obtaining, reviewing and comparing subcontractor, supplier, material and plant quotations.
  • Liaising with builders' merchants, suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and confirm availability and lead times.
  • Assisting with the review of drawings, specifications and schedules to establish project requirements.
  • Supporting material take-offs, costing sheets and tender breakdowns where required.
  • Preparing quotation comparisons to assist Project Managers with cost assessment and supplier/subcontractor selection.
  • Identifying potential cost savings and alternative materials or products where appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate records of tender returns, supplier quotations and project costs.
  • Supporting procurement once projects are secured, including placing and tracking material orders.
  • Monitoring material availability, pricing and lead times throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Liaising with Project Managers, Site Managers, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure materials and services are available when required.
  • Assisting with project programmes, schedules and general project administration.
  • Supporting the preparation and coordination of project documentation, including RAMS, specifications, material schedules and procurement records.
  • Assisting Project Managers with tracking expenditure against project budgets and highlighting potential cost increases.
  • Helping to record and price variations, additional works and revised quotations.
  • Managing and prioritising multiple live projects and tenders simultaneously.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and the wider project team.
About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, commercially aware, proactive and keen to develop within the construction industry.

You may currently be working in a builder's merchant, construction supplier, subcontractor or contractor environment and be looking to take the next step in your career.

Relevant experience could include:

  • Project or Contracts Administration
  • Assistant Project Coordination
  • Junior or Assistant Estimating
  • Procurement or Materials Coordination
  • Builder's Merchant Sales, Trade Counter or Estimating
  • Construction Supply
  • Office-based subcontractor experience
  • Junior Contracts Coordination

Previous experience within construction, building materials or a related industry is preferred. Exposure to tendering, estimating, procurement or project coordination would be advantageous, although extensive estimating experience is not essential.

A practical understanding of construction materials and products would be particularly beneficial, alongside an ability to understand how materials, suppliers, pricing and lead times impact project delivery.

You should also be:

  • Commercially minded with good numerical ability.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident communicating with suppliers, subcontractors, Site Managers and Project Managers.
  • Comfortable picking up the phone, chasing quotations and negotiating competitive pricing.
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel, Word and email.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and work across several projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working with construction drawings, specifications and schedules, or willing to develop these skills.
  • Proactive in identifying issues and following tasks through to completion.
  • Keen to develop a broader understanding of estimating, procurement and project delivery.

Experience with RAMS, material schedules, procurement records or other construction documentation would be beneficial but is not essential.

The Opportunity

This position offers the opportunity to join an established internal fit-out contractor and gain broad exposure to the commercial and operational side of construction projects.

Working alongside experienced Project Managers, you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge across tendering, estimating, procurement, cost control and project delivery, with the potential to take on greater responsibility as your experience develops.

The role would particularly suit someone who already has a strong grounding in construction materials, suppliers or subcontractor relationships and is looking to progress into a wider project coordination position within a contractor environment.

What's on Offer
  • Salary: 40,000 - 45,000 per annum
  • Permanent position
  • Based at the company's head office in Huntingdon
  • Opportunity to work with an established specialist internal fit-out contractor
  • Exposure to a varied range of projects
  • Development across tendering, procurement and project delivery
  • Opportunity for career progression and increased responsibility
  • Supportive environment working alongside an experienced Project Management team
