Edge Careers is seeking an Assistant Estimator for a growing construction business based from their head office in Aylesford. You will support the pre-construction team from initial enquiry through to tender submission, helping with take-offs, cost plans and tender documentation.

The role requires good IT skills (Excel, Word, Outlook), ability to read drawings, strong attention to detail and the drive to work to deadlines as part of a busy estimating team.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with tender preparation, budgets and cost plans.
  • Review tender documents, drawings and project requirements.
  • Carry out take-offs (manual and digital).
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities.
  • Prepare and issue subcontractor enquiries and review quotations.
  • Input and analyse project costs.
  • Support the preparation of tender submissions and handover to the project team.
  • Maintain the subcontractor database.
  • Attend site visits as required.
  • Support pre-construction administration and document control.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Estimator to join a growing and ambitious construction business based from their head office in Aylesford.

The company specialises in the delivery of industrial, commercial and leisure projects, working with established clients across the UK on projects ranging from smaller schemes through to major developments valued at up to 50m. Their specialist market knowledge and reputation for quality have helped them build a strong and growing order book.

The Role

Working closely with the Pre-Construction Director and wider estimating team, you will support the preparation and delivery of tenders from initial enquiry through to submission and handover.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the preparation of tenders, budgets and cost plans
  • Reviewing tender documents, drawings and project requirements
  • Carrying out manual and digital take-offs
  • Preparing Bills of Quantities
  • Preparing and issuing subcontractor enquiries
  • Obtaining, reviewing and comparing subcontractor quotations
  • Inputting and analysing project costs
  • Supporting the preparation of tender submissions
  • Assisting with the handover of successful tenders to the project team
  • Maintaining the subcontractor database
  • Attending site visits where required
  • Supporting general pre-construction administration and document control
About You

The ideal candidate will have some previous experience within estimating, quantity surveying, pre-construction or a construction related commercial environment and be keen to develop their career further.

You’ll need:
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • The ability to read and understand drawings and written information
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work to deadlines and manage your workload effectively
  • A proactive, enthusiastic and self-motivated approach
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • A full UK driving licence
