Job summary

HS2 Ltd. seeks an experienced Project Controls professional to establish and implement HS2 requirements for project controls. The role supports the Performance Measurement Baseline, integrates programme and cost data, and promotes lean, visual reporting across a large, complex infrastructure program.

You will collaborate with the BBV joint venture partner and internal teams to drive timely performance insights and ensure zero-harm delivery in a dynamic Midlands environment.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in planning and project controls for large-scale construction projects.
• Strong understanding of risk and opportunity management.
• Ability to coach and develop project control staff.
• Familiarity with tender, contract documents and reporting methods.

Responsibilities

• Establish HS2 requirements for Project Controls and ensure compliance.
• Support development of Performance Measurement Baseline and Updates.
• Integrate current and forecast programme, budget, cost, and risk at asset level.
• Promote best practice, lean methods and visual performance metrics.
• Coach project control staff to reach their potential and deliver timely reporting.

Job description

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location:

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role Description:

• To establish and implement the HS2 requirements for Project Controls
• Ensure compliance to HS2 requirements
• Support the production and delivery of the Performance Measurement Baseline and Performance Measurement Updates Capture and integrate current and forecast programme, budget, cost, and risk at asset and sub-asset level
• Promote best practice and innovation
• Assist with the development of all planning and project control staff to reach their full potential
• Assist with coaching and supporting of project control and planning staff, as required
• Ensure that appropriate lean, coordinated and visual performance metrics are set up to assist the Project Team to timely deliver projects and improve performance
• Effectively using IT and systems as a key enabler for gathering and timely and accurate reporting on project performance Live the BBV values

• Considerable, in-depth experience of planning & project control services within large complex environments within the construction and engineering industry
• Understanding of various forms of tender documents, contract documents and specifications
• Advanced understanding of various methods of project controls, planning and performance reporting
• Experience in risk and opportunity management
• Advanced understanding of the events that initiate, and of the methods used to demonstrate, delay or change entitlement
• Good understanding of the construction market, methods of construction, plant, equipment and labour requirements
• Experience in coaching, mentoring and developing others
