Programme Leader - Educaton and Skills

We are delighted to be supporting a leading organisation in the education and skills sector with the appointment of a Programme Leader at their Bolton centre.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Further Education professional to take on a key leadership role, combining teaching, people management and curriculum development to help young people achieve their potential and progress into their next steps.

The opportunity

As Programme Leader, you will lead a team of teaching staff while maintaining a fractional teaching commitment of your own. Working closely with the Head of Curriculum and Engagement, you will play a central role in ensuring learners receive a high-quality, inclusive and engaging educational experience.

You will help shape and develop the curriculum to ensure it responds effectively to learner needs, employer expectations and regional employment and skills priorities.

A key part of the role will be driving high standards across teaching, learning and assessment, while supporting strong learner retention, achievement and progression outcomes.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead, support and develop a team of teaching staff through effective line management, coaching and mentoring.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment alongside your leadership responsibilities.
  • Ensure learners receive appropriate academic, pastoral and progression support.
  • Monitor learner progress and achievement, using data to identify and address areas of concern.
  • Lead the development and implementation of an engaging and responsive curriculum.
  • Ensure programmes meet relevant quality, compliance and regulatory requirements, including Ofsted expectations.
  • Develop strategies to maximise learner retention, achievement and progression.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and excellence.
  • Work collaboratively with employers, partner organisations and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop opportunities for industry engagement, work experience and enrichment.
  • Support the effective, safe and compliant operation of the education centre.
  • Identify and respond to the needs of learners who may require additional support.
About you

We are looking for an experienced education professional with a strong understanding of the Further Education and Skills sector and a genuine passion for improving outcomes for young people.

To be successful, you will have:

  • English and mathematics qualifications at Level 2 or above.
  • Significant experience delivering teaching, learning and assessment to young people within Further Education and Skills.
  • Knowledge of contemporary teaching and learning theory and practice.
  • Experience of curriculum design and development.
  • Knowledge of Further Education funding and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience working with quality and regulatory frameworks, including the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework.
  • Experience of coaching, mentoring or supporting colleagues to improve their practice.
  • Experience of collaborative working and contributing to continuous improvement.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, policies and procedures, particularly when working with vulnerable learners.

You will be an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with learners, colleagues and external partners.

We're particularly interested in candidates who are ready to take the next step in their leadership career, as well as established programme or curriculum leaders who are looking for their next challenge.

Why this role?

This is more than a programme management position. You will have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people through education, while helping to shape the quality and direction of the provision.

You will be joining an organisation committed to high-quality learning, inclusion, safeguarding and positive learner outcomes, with the opportunity to influence both day-to-day delivery and longer-term curriculum development.
