The University of Southampton’s Department of Economics invites applications for a Professorship position. This follows the successful hiring of two Lecturers, one Associate Professor, and two Professors in Autumn 2024, as part of a major expansion to enhance our research, education, and knowledge exchange activities.

Our department is renowned for impactful research in migration, networks, education, crime, and inequality, and is a leader in macroeconomic, experimental, and econometric methods. The 2021 REF rated 100% of our research environment and impact initiatives as internationally excellent or above, with 93% of research outputs rated similarly. We have secured prestigious grants from ESRC, Horizon 2020, and Norface, and contribute to large-scale initiatives like the ESRC Centre for Population Change and ESRC Connecting Generations.

The University ranks among the top 100 worldwide and is one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive institutions. It is focusing on AI and Data Science, Sustainability and Resilience, Decarbonisation, and Engineering Better Health. The Department prioritizes applications from scholars with expertise in applied economics (migration, industrial organization, labour, environmental, and health economics), microeconometrics, financial econometrics, and data science.

Applicants should have an established reputation in Economics, evidenced by publications in leading journals and impactful research. Leadership, a strong reputation in their sub-field, and a track record of securing research grants are essential. The role involves designing and delivering innovative, research-led teaching, contributing to the department's educational mission.
