A world-class manufacturing business based in Plymouth is seeking an experienced first-line manager. As a team leader, you will be responsible for managing personnel shifts and the designated area, aligning your activities with company KPIs focused on safety, quality, and profitability.

You will oversee teams, including cell leaders who support KPI adherence, and ensure compliance with health and safety policies, quality standards, and operational targets.

Main Duties

1. Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, including risk assessments, audits, PPE, and incident reporting.
2. Maintain quality standards, verification processes, scrap reduction initiatives, and root cause analysis.
3. Manage daily output versus plan, review performance, and implement recovery plans.
4. Drive productivity improvements in line with KPIs.
5. Calculate and justify staffing requirements based on volume needs.
6. Ensure personnel are trained and certified before task execution.
7. Handle HR activities such as recruitment, appraisals, and disciplinary procedures.
8. Review OEE schedules and take corrective actions as needed.
9. Implement continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S standards.
10. Ensure shift pattern adherence, manage recruitment, and conduct interviews.
11. Lead investigations, disciplinary hearings, and enforce stop/go policies.
12. Organize training sessions and conduct shift toolbox talks on health & safety and quality.
13. Review performance, set targets, and communicate expectations.
14. Ensure operator competence and training compliance.
15. Undertake ILM Level 5 and IOSH Managing Safely training, with opportunities for Six Sigma and other courses.
16. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders.

Experience

• Leadership experience in a similar manufacturing environment.
• Experience in assembly or machine shop settings.
• Knowledge of H&S compliance and managing production targets.
• Experience with 5S initiatives, interpersonal skills, problem-solving, and IT proficiency, especially in Excel.
