Job summary

TXM Recruit in Gloucestershire is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations, leading a team of mechanical and electrical production technicians and ensuring timely delivery.

You will drive continuous improvements, monitor quality, read engineering drawings, and coordinate with engineering, operations, and quality teams to resolve issues on the shop floor. The role offers a stable, permanent contract with progression on a Monday–Friday day shift.

Qualifications

• Candidate has supervisory experience leading a production team in engineering or fabrication.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret production metrics.
• Proven communication skills for cross-department liaison (Engineering, Operations, Quality).
• Practical knowledge of health and safety on the shop floor.
• Right to work in the UK and flexible to cover production demands.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate, and coordinate a team of mechanical and electrical technicians.
• Allocate tasks and manage daily production schedules to maintain workflow and meet deadlines.
• Monitor production quality and read drawings to resolve defects with Engineering and Operations.
• Maintain production records (output, downtime, waste) and manage attendance and holidays.
• Enforce health and safety standards on the shop floor.
• Identify bottlenecks and drive small-scale continuous improvement (5S, waste reduction).
• Coordinate with sub-assembly, quality, and supply chain teams to resolve machine or material issues.

We are seeking a Production Supervisor with a strong background in mechanical engineering, fabrication, or assembly environments to oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations at our facility.

In this hands-on shop floor role, you will lead a dedicated team of mechanical and electrical production technicians, managing schedules, monitoring quality, and driving continuous improvements to meet critical output targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and coordinate a team of mechanical and electrical technicians.
• Daily Operations: Allocate tasks and manage daily production schedules to maintain a consistent workflow and meet strict delivery deadlines.
• Quality Control: Monitor production quality, reading drawings and technical paperwork to resolve defects or non-conformances alongside Engineering and Operations.
• Performance Tracking: Maintain accurate production records (output, downtime, waste) and manage team attendance, sickness, and holiday bookings.
• H&S Compliance: Enforce high health, safety, and housekeeping standards on the shop floor.
• Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks and drive small-scale continuous improvement initiatives like 5S and waste reduction.
• Cross-Department Liaison: Coordinate directly with sub-assembly, quality, and supply chain teams to resolve machine, tooling, or material issues swiftly.

Essential Experience & Skills Required

• Supervisory Background: Proven experience supervising a production team within an engineering, mechanical manufacturing, or fabrication environment.
• Technical Literacy: Strong ability to read engineering drawings, follow complex procedures, and interpret production metrics.
• Communication: Effective leadership skills with a track record of giving clear direction and liaising across departments (Engineering, Operations, Quality).
• H&S Knowledge: A practical understanding of health and safety requirements in a physical shop floor environment.
• Right to Work: Valid right to work in the UK and flexibility to support production demands.

Desirable Attributes (Not Essential)

• An NVQ or BTEC (Level 2 or 3) vocational qualification in manufacturing, engineering, or production.
• Familiarity using ERP/MRP systems or production scheduling software.
• Experience with lean manufacturing tools (e.g., 5S, Kaizen).
• Formal supervisory or health & safety training (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH, or a Team Leader course).
• A valid forklift truck / materials handling licence.
