Job summary

Lord Search & Selection is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to lead the machining operation in a high-specification environment in Gloucestershire and drive performance across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People.

You will manage a team of Operators and Team Leaders, work closely with Planning, Process Engineering and Quality to improve output and process capability, and embed Lean improvements and effective problem‑solving on the shop floor.

Qualifications

• Significant supervisory experience in a complex manufacturing/engineering environment.
• Strong knowledge of CNC milling and turning, with understanding of manual machining and basic assembly.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T.
• Experience managing production outputs, KPIs and performance improvement.
• Experience using an ERP system (e.g., IFS).
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and structured problem-solving techniques.

A key leadership role within a high-specification manufacturing environment

A well-established and technically advanced manufacturing business is looking to appoint an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to lead its machining operation and play a key role in driving performance across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Production Supervisor, Machine Shop Supervisor or CNC manufacturing leader who enjoys being close to the operation, developing people and making a tangible difference to production performance.

The successful candidate will lead a team of skilled Operators, Setter Operators and Team Leaders, working closely with Production Planning, Process Engineering and Quality Engineering to continually improve operational performance.

The Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day performance of your production area, ensuring the team delivers against agreed targets while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and efficiency.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading, motivating and developing a skilled production team
• Driving Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People performance and associated KPIs
• Monitoring production output, efficiency and departmental performance
• Identifying problems and driving effective root-cause and problem-solving activity
• Working closely with Engineering, Quality and Planning to improve production performance
• Identifying and implementing opportunities to optimise machining processes
• Ensuring effective use of the IFS ERP system and maintaining accurate production data
• Supporting employee performance, development and management processes
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, H&S and operational discipline
• Supporting internal and external audits, HSE investigations and risk assessments
• Contributing to continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives

About You

We are looking for an experienced manufacturing supervisor who can combine strong people leadership with sound technical understanding. You are likely to have:

• Significant supervisory experience within a complex manufacturing or engineering environment
• Strong knowledge of CNC milling and turning, with an understanding of manual machining, saws, sanders and basic assembly
• The ability to interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T
• Experience managing production outputs, KPIs and performance improvement
• Experience using an ERP system, ideally IFS
• An understanding of Lean Manufacturing and structured problem-solving techniques
• A practical, hands‑on approach to leadership and operational improvement
• The confidence to challenge performance and drive accountability while developing your team
